The National Law Enforcement Officer Memorial Fund
The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund was established in 1984 to honor, commemorate and record the service and sacrifice of America's law enforcement officers.
Under the direction of Congress, the NLEOMF raised money for and built the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Judiciary Square, Washington, DC. President George H. W. Bush officially dedicated the Memorial on Oct 15, 1991, and declared that day National Law Enforcement Memorial Dedication Day.
Engraved on the walls of the Memorial are the names of over 18,000 officers who have died in the line of duty since the first known death in 1792.
In 2000, President Bill Clinton signed into law that the nation's first National Law Enforcement Museum would be built on federal land across from the Memorial. The Memorial Fund is currently working to raise money for and build the Museum, which is scheduled to be completed in 2011.
